ENVIROVOTERS APPLAUDS SELECTION OF SEN. HARRIS AS VP CANDIDATE
Oakland, CA – The California Environenmental Voters (EnviroVoters) today released a statement celebrating the selection of Senator Kamala Harris as a candidate for Vice President.
Statement from Mary Creasman, CEO, California Environmental Voters:
“EnviroVoters is thrilled to see the Biden Campaign’s pick for Vice Presidential candidate in Senator Kamala Harris. It’s way past time for a woman of color to be in a position to help steer our country. Representation matters in all ways. We can’t underestimate how powerful it can be to not only have a woman in a top leadership position in our country, but a person of color, and somebody from a state with experience building inclusive coalitions to pass progressive policies.
Senator Harris brings with her a deep history in fighting for environmental justice while tackling the climate crisis — even as recently as pushing forward a Climate Equity bill last week. As California Attorney General, she built a record fighting Big Oil. That leadership is what is needed most nationally in the coming years. California has blazed the trail on the work to transform our economy and infrastructure to advance climate justice, and Senator Harris can bring these successes and her experience to the White House.
With clarity on the Biden-Harris ticket, now is the time to collectively turn our focus to protecting against the scourge of voter suppression by ensuring every voter has access to voting safely and simply this fall by mail or in-person.”
